About

Hello and welcome!

My name is Pina and I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a member of the Psychologists Association of Alberta. I completed my Masters in Counselling Psychology (2011) through the University of Calgary and my Masters in Education (1994) through the University of Alberta. Through my journey, I have been fortunate to acquire experience working with many children, adolescents and adults who have needed support with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, coping with disability, divorce, family challenges and relationship issues.

A considerable amount of my work as a teacher, school counselor and psychologist over the last 30 years has been in school settings with a primary goal of assessing and providing support to children, their families and teachers. I am cognizant of the struggles that some children or youth experience in the regular school system. My experiences as a classroom teacher and school psychologist have prompted a desire to work with students with learning and behavioral challenges in conjunction with their families. I have a special interest helping children acquire the skills they need in order for them to reach their full potential and to be successful.

As a psychologist I work from a client-centered approach and believe that for change to occur there must be a genuine, non-judgmental relationship between the client and the therapist. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy, systemic family therapy, and Rogerian psychotherapy. I also have a special interest in working with children using play based approaches.
